Flooding caused by torrential rain across Sudan has displaced more than 50,000 people. The intensity of the flash floods has claimed many lives, leaving hundreds injured; with casualties increasing daily.
Specifically, the South Tokar region has seen a significant amount of destruction. On the blessed day of Arafah, South Tokar was hit with severe flooding, destroying hundreds of homes and leaving more than 20,000 of its people displaced. Those in the surrounding areas have also been impacted, with children most at risk.
This is already a poverty-stricken area and so the floods have exacerbated this, causing severe food shortages. If not addressed, similar to the floods in 2018 which led to the submersion of homes in Kassala, spread of disease can become a significant issue. Back then, 142,000 people were affected. We want to avoid a similar catastrophe reoccurring.
In order to contain the disaster, we need to act early and prevent further casualties.
Ethar Relief's team is on the ground ready to distribute food packs to the needy, along with mosquito nets to prevent spread of disease.
A family food pack provides a family of five with a one month supply containing clean water, lentils, flour, oil, and beans.
Lines are open between 9am and 5pm Monday to Friday.
